Finishing Strong

Mar 1, 2026    Pastor Daniel Dye

This message takes us deep into Nehemiah chapters 6 and 7, where we discover that finishing strong is often harder than starting with enthusiasm. We learn that the wall around Jerusalem was completed in just 52 days—a miraculous testament to God's favor—but the work was far from over. The completion of the physical wall didn't eliminate spiritual opposition; in fact, it intensified in more subtle ways. We're introduced to Tobiah, a complex antagonist who represents something we all face: opposition that doesn't quit even when God's work becomes undeniable. Tobiah wasn't just against bricks and mortar; he was against the restoration and reform that threatened his control and influence. This teaches us a profound truth: when God rebuilds something in our lives—whether it's a relationship, a spiritual discipline, or our reputation—old influences will resist. The enemy's strategy shifts from mocking to threatening to infiltrating to intimidating. What makes this message especially relevant is how it connects to our own discipleship journey. We're challenged to guard what God has restored by establishing intentional guardrails, maintaining vigilance, and surrounding ourselves with faithful people. The call isn't to paranoia but to wisdom—opening our gates only when we can see clearly, appointing trustworthy guardians, and never assuming that progress equals permanence. Ultimately, this points us to Jesus, the true finisher of our faith, who didn't just complete a construction project but secured our salvation with the words 'It is finished.'
